The network particularly enjoyed the second day when we learned from the School of Data about hands on tools which could take them from messy data into comprehensible visualizations.

The trainers spent considerable amount of time teaching participants how to extract, scrap, syndicate, clean and organise data, so that it is ready for visualisation. A long list of tools were introduced and tested. Participants got a chance to work on several actual datasets from the region and beyond. We asked the community what their biggest takeaway was and while most answered networking and technical skills, one member said: “the power of internet was opened to me”. And on what could be done better, they suggested longer term activities with a chance to grasp the concepts and insights even more deeply.
By the end of the day most of the participant were making progress on data that mattered to them while Caleb, our favorite intern at the UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub, had produced a map of our recent tweets (below).
